The Newbury Children's and Community Centre in Craigieburn has been built to meet the needs of the fast-growing Hume municipality. The state of the art facility features three 33-place Kindergartens, occasional care for up to 33 children, maternal health facilities, professional offices, a toy library, a large community space, a commercial grade kitchen and a cafe. The generous ‘internal street’ at the heart of the centre acts as a thermal chimney by absorbing heat into the feature dark brickwork, exhausting the heat through the clerestory louvre windows and in turn drawing air through the building by automatically opening louvres.
